A proposal to decrease speeds on some downtown Lexington streets cleared its first hurdle Tuesday.The Urban County Council’s Environmental Quality and Public Works Committee voted unanimously to forward to the full council a recommendation to decrease speed limits on dozens of downtown streets from 35 to 25 miles per hour. The move is part of a broader effort to improve pedestrian safety and decrease the number of pedestrians struck by cars.
